Ever since Rory Sutherland used the term “branded utility” at an MMA event back in March 2009 when talking about how applications could be used to promote products without having to place banner ads all over them I have been using this phrase when describing what will work in mobile advertising. Those that have seen [...]

My morning commute has been made a little more pleasant with the introduction of a new piece of Nokia software from their beta labs – Nokia Headlines. If you’re like me and your morning newspaper of choice is a broadsheet like the Financial Times, or the Daily Telegraph, then you will know how difficult these papers are to read on public transport due to their large format size. With the increase in the launch of mobile versions of social networking sites such as m.facebook.com m.linkedin.com m.twitter.com m.youtube.com m.myspace.com (ps notice a pattern here – no .mobi extension for these major sites – does this point to the fact that consumers will decree dot m is the winner) ..it got me thinking about the [...]

A few weeks ago I read about the new Yahoo! location initiative called Fire Eagle. Being a former practitioner in the Location industry, I rushed to the site, only to find I needed an invitation. Luckily David Recordon from sixapart (movable type) was kind enough to send me one. For those of you trying to [...]
