Microsoft quietly launched a new feature on the mobile version of their live website at http://m.live.comhere in the UK. As you can see from the screenshots below, there is now a “find me” button. Users in the UK who access m.live.com from their native WAP browser (would not work on Opera Mobile or Opera Mini) are [...]

Welcome to All About Symbian readers – looks like we’ve had a flood of traffic from the post by Steve Litchfield titled Ruminations on cell-id location in Nokia Maps 2.0. I have been using Nokia maps for some time now, and following the launch of their V2.0 beta at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, I have [...]

Head over to Telematics Update where Osman Iqbal talks to Andrew Grill from Seeker Wireless and Richard Lee of Creativity Software talk about what it will take for location-based advertising to go mainstream.
Andrew and Richard will be speaking at the Navigation and Location Europe 2008 conference in Amsterdam from June 4-5.
Andrew has been asked to moderate the LOCATION session at the Being Digital event on June 10th in London. This looks to be a very exciting event, as it packs in 7 digital themes (advertising, identity, content, location, social, retail and search) which cover the full range of “being digital”. In addition, the event aims [...]

Recently I was asked to respond to some questions around Location Based Advertising as part of an opinion piece. I thought it would be useful to republish my responses here, and promote some debate on the issue of location based advertising. What does location based (aware) advertising actually entail? Could you give some real life [...]
Looking through my weblogs over the weekend, I saw some traffic start to arrive from www.simplethemes.net. Heading over to their site, I see that London Calling has been featured as the demo for Robert Ellis’ excellent Fururocity Vero wordpress themethat I installed only last week. Since upgrading the site to wordpress and installing Robert’s theme, I’ve had [...]
Following on from my earlier post mobile advertising – walking the talk, I thought I’d check out how “mobile ready” a number of well known blogs and sites are that talk about mobile advertising. Luckily, many are already mobile friendly, in that viewing them from a mobile handset presents the mobile version or optimised sites. Andy Moore left a [...]
This week we have a new Carnival publisher, Bena Roberts from GoMo news – but she’s no stranger to publishing! Head on over to GoMo News to read this week’s installment of Carnival of the Mobilists where you can read a collection of fascinating posts on Mobile Search and Android, Softbank Japan’s $430 million investment into [...]

Welcome to London Calling, the new name of my blog with thoughts on mobile advertising, mobile location, local search and social networking. Why the name? As an Australian now based in London, I was used to many TV programs that used the line “london calling” when referring to long distance international calls to Australia. When [...]
My morning commute has been made a little more pleasant with the introduction of a new piece of Nokia software from their beta labs – Nokia Headlines. If you’re like me and your morning newspaper of choice is a broadsheet like the Financial Times, or the Daily Telegraph, then you will know how difficult these papers are to read on public transport due to their large format size. Thanks to a new release from Nokia labs, this is a thing of the past.
The Headlines team have secured deals with major brand publishers like the New York Times, International Herald Tribune, the Sydney Morning Herald in Sydney and the Sun in London.

This week’s Carnival is full of news and views on all things mobile and is hosted by Xen Mendelsohn from Flixwagon over at Xellular Identity. I’ve been testing Flixwagon for a few weeks now, look out for a review on the site here soon.
image credit: Michael Smetham Many people are writing about mobile advertising – who’s getting it right, who will win and what the forecasts for 20XX will be – but are these people also using mobile advertising? In this post, I want to highlight the difference in the mobile advertising industry between those who do and [...]
I found this scan of a full page magazine still in my website image files, and thought I would publish it to show while things have changed, in some cases they have stayed the same. This was a full page house ad that appeared in the “Business Review Weekly” in Australia in 1999. [...]
I’ve just come across an excellent article by Emily Freeman (a subscriber to this blog) on mobile advertising in Australia. As an antipodean (and recently described as one of the “Antiopdean mobile mafia” living in London), I was keen to hear how mobile advertising is being adopted in my old home. Her article provides a [...]
